Join Sue Forbes and others for a deeper dive into the discussion of what ‘mattering’ looks like for us as individuals. This was the Reflection from September 20th:
“A New Take on Our Most Basic Desire: To Matter”. We humans are the only species on earth that asks: Am I living a life that matters? Indeed that ‘mattering instinct’ may be the most peculiar and human thing about us. Now, a new take on mattering shows how that deep longing can both connect and divide us. And the world’s longest study of adult development reveals what actually works to create the meaning and purpose we search for.
You’re invited to three after-service Discussions on this topic from 12:15-1:15 pm on these 3 Sundays: September 20, October 4 and October 18. Join for one, two, or all three.
You’re invited to drop in for any or all of these free weekly Meditation sessions led by Dianne Hicks (11am to noon each Monday). We often go out for lunch afterwards – which is optional
The group will meet in the Sanctuary.
These sessions are in the Vipassana tradition starting with Meta (loving kindness) followed by a silent meditation and a reading with discussion. The only requirement is to be able to close your eyes and breathe.
No registration necessary, simply show up.

The Ecosystem Project (aka “Activating the Canadian UU Ecosystem”) has identified four areas for deep conversation to help shape the future of Unitarian Universalism in Canada. We will be holding events that will bring together people with lived experience, congregational or community leadership experience, and academic or subject expertise for a lively conversation with Canadian Unitarians.
Beyond simply attending these four sessions, if any of these topics ignites your passion, please join our planning team to share your ideas and help craft the event. (Contact info below.)
The second Discussion:
Shared Leadership through Sociocracy
Saturday Oct 24, 2026- 10 am pacific
Explore collaborative governance models that distribute leadership, foster participation, and strengthen decision-making within congregations and organizations. Learn how Sociocratic practices can help communities become more resilient, inclusive, and responsive to change.
