Interac eTransfers
An eTransfer is a way of using your computer or phone to send a specific dollar amount directly from your bank to another person or organization via secure email. Because your bank has numerous safety measures built into the process (and you develop your own security question and answer for each payee), it is very secure.
Instructions
Log into your bank account online using your computer or cell phone.
Click on “Interac eTransfer” or “Send Interac eTransfer”. (NOTE: This is different than “Bill Paying” or “Pay Bills Online”).
Set up the North Shore Unitarian Church as a payee. (You only have to do this once).
When asked for the church’s email address, use the main email address for the church office (info@northshoreunitarians.ca).
In the comments section, specify what the funds are for. (Example: “Pledge” or “Outreach” or “Facility Rental” or “Wedding”).
Answer your bank’s prompts by entering the dollar amount. (If allowed by your bank, you can also enter the frequency — such as monthly or weekly).
Review and confirm the eTransfer, and click on “Finish” or “Send” or whatever other button your bank asks you to click to finalize the transaction.
What happens next?
Your bank will then send an email to the church office with a link to unlock your eTransfer.
Your donation will be applied to the fund you indicated (Pledge, Outreach, Wedding or whatever other fund you specified).
Our Church Administrator will email you to confirm that the eTransfer has been received and applied to the correct fund.
All charitable donations received are included on your end-of-year tax receipt. (Payments for purchases are not included on tax receipts). Church Members and Friends can also view their giving in Breeze. Contact the Church Administrator for Breeze access.
Questions & Answers about eTransfers
Q: Will I receive an end-of-year tax receipt for my donation?
A: If you purchased something from us, no. But if you made a charitable donation to our church or to one of our charitable funds (including Outreach donations), you will receive a tax receipt if you are listed in our donation software. (If we do not yet have you listed in our donation software, please email our church office (info@northshoreunitarians.ca) with your name and email address, so we can link your name and email to your donation)
Q: Does it cost anything to send an eTransfer?
A: Your bank may or may not charge you a small fee to send an eTransfer, but for many people there is no cost to send eTransfers.
Q: Does 100% of the money sent by eTransfer go to the church?
A: Yes! In fact, that’s one of the reasons we like accepting eTransfers. Unlike other payment methods, 100% of the funds you send are received by the church.
Q: How will I know that my eTransfer was received by the church?
A: Our Church Administrator will send you a confirmation email letting you know that it has been successfully received by the church. (You may also get an email from your bank indicating that your eTransfer was received). You can also verify all of your donations to the church by signing into Breeze and looking at your own giving. (Not yet a Breeze user? Don’t know how to view your giving? Watch this video).
Q: Are eTransfers safe?
A: They are very safe. Both your bank and NSUC have security protocols in place to protect your personal information and to prevent hackers from accessing your information or money. (Read more about NSUC’s Privacy and Protection of Personal Information HERE). The church never actually sees your account information — they only see the dollar amount that you’ve sent, along with your comments.
